A Look Back at the Birds

The Cardinals 2022 season ended on October 8th. However, they are still relevant. This is because the end of one season means the beginning of another. Therefore, it is now time to look forward to the future and become excited about what 2023 has in store for the Redbirds. But today, we should look back at a great season, and the topics covered during this somewhat successful season for the Redbirds.

The Current Cardinals - One of the first relevant posts on the Cardinals' 2022 season involved an overview of the Cardinals' 2022 season up until August 27th. This post was filled with optimism and prepared readers for what to expect out of the Cardinals for the remainder of the season. While some of this optimism continued throughout the season, some of it did not last long. Arenado and Goldschmidt remained at the top of the NL and are now finalists for the NL MVP Award. The pitching stayed rather strong. However, this did not transfer to the playoffs and resulted in an early exit for the Cardinals.

Reviewing the Pen - In one of my most in-depth posts, I talked about the bullpen, and how they were performing during the season, up until September 4th. This post was also filled with optimism, and while guys like Giovanny Gallegos, Jake Woodford, and Zack Thompson still have me excited, others ended up disappointing me. Ryan Helsley, who at the time was one of the best relief pitchers in baseball, fell flat in the last few games of the season and is one of the guys to blame for the early exit. Also, Andre Pallante could not keep up with his awesome season, so let's hope he bounces back in 2023 and can continue to do what he did during the earlier parts of 2022.

5 Reasons the Cards Are Contenders - At the time, this post seemed to be well thought out and rather practical. However, the Cardinals were not contending for anything other than a first-round exit. Therefore, this prediction did not age well.

Ranting About a Redbird - This post aged rather well, as Paul DeJong is still bad at baseball. He did not make the necessary improvements that he needed to make, and could easily find himself looking for a new job before the start of the 2023 season. Although, I am still rooting for the guy, and hope that he can eventually get it together, and figure out his problems at the plate.

Will There Be 700? - Yes, yes there will be. This post aged very well, as just a few weeks later, Pujols hit his 700th home run. Also, whoever predicted that he would finish with 703, you won.

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to my posts, but these are all of the ones that are relevant to the Cardinals' 2022 season. I hope that these posts helped keep you informed throughout the season.

I will continue to make posts that reflect on the Cardinals and their past, as well as ones that look forward to the future. I hope you will continue to read what I have to say about this great team and great sport.
