A Look Back at the Birds

The Cardinals 2022 season ended on October 8th. However, they are still relevant. This is because the end of one season means the beginning of another. Therefore, it is now time to look forward to the future and become excited about what 2023 has in store for the Redbirds. But today, we should look back at a great season, and the topics covered during this somewhat successful season for the Redbirds.  The Current Cardinals - One of the first relevant posts on the Cardinals' 2022 season involved an overview of the Cardinals' 2022 season up until August 27th. This post was filled with optimism and prepared readers for what to expect out of the Cardinals for the remainder of the season. While some of this optimism continued throughout the season, some of it did not last long. Arenado and Goldschmidt remained at the top of the NL and are now finalists for the NL MVP Award. The pitching stayed rather strong. However, this did not transfer to the playoffs and resulted in an earl

Zac Gallen & Sandy Alcantara - The Cardinals' Biggest Regrets

Within the Cardinals community, one topic that has been rather prevalent in the last few years is, "What if the Cardinals never traded for Marcell Ozuna?" This question is of importance as the Cardinals gave up both Zac Gallen and Sandy Alcantara, for two injury-plagued seasons from the streaky left fielder. Gallen and Alcantara are now two of the best pitchers in all of baseball, and could absolutely fix the Cardinals pitching problems. While Marcell Ozuna is no longer on the team and doing very little for the Atlanta Braves, with his most notable actions coming off the field and involving legal trouble.      At the time of this trade, the Cardinals saw no problems in their offerings and were excited to get a Gold Glove left fielder with MVP potential. However, this is not what they received, and they ended up giving up much more than they initially believed. The Cardinals traded two future aces for an average player, who could not field and would leave the team after j

Let's Talk Nolan Gorman

Nolan Gorman is a guy who I was very excited about before the 2022 MLB season. Although I am still rather optimistic about the rookie second baseman's future, I do not have the same mindset that I did just 7 months ago. This is because Nolan Gorman finally got his chance to play at the Major League level in 2022, and his play was rather disappointing. While he was far from being the worst hitter on the Cardinals, he did not live up to the hype that surrounded him throughout his journey through the Minor League system.       If I was asked before the 2022 season, "Who is the Cardinals' second baseman of the future?" I would have quickly and confidently said "Nolan Gorman." However, I am not too confident in this answer anymore. This is because Nolan Gorman was the second-best rookie second baseman on the team. The first best being Brendan Donovan . Donovan did nearly everything better during the 2022 season, from fielding, hitting, base-running, and com

Was Bader Better?

In 2022, the St. Louis Cardinals traded their centerfielder, Harrison Bader, to the New York Yankees for one of the Yankees starting pitchers, Jordan Montgomery. The Cardinals reportedly made this trade for multiple reasons. Firstly, the Cardinals felt as though Dylan Carlson was a better long-term option than Harrison Bader, so they could afford to trade away Bader and turn to the younger and cheaper Dylan Carlson. Secondly, the Cardinals' biggest question mark during the first half of the season was their starting pitching, so they felt as though trading for Montgomery would fix this problem; which it certainly did.     While Harrison Bader was a fan favorite, he wasn't ownership's favorite when it came to deciding between Harrison Bader and Dylan Carlson. This decision was made easier following Bader's planter fasciitis injury that caused him to miss an extended period of time. During this time, Dylan Carlson showcased his abilities in centerfield and proved to b

St. Louis...We Have a Problem

As I have previously discussed, the St. Louis Cardinals' product is their talent. The way people can find out whether or not the Cardinals are producing a good product is based on the way the team plays, and the success that they have. And although I hate to say it, St. Louis.... we have a problem.      Since 2013, it seems as though the Cardinals have been unable to make it to the October classic. This is not due to a lack of talent or poor management, and this is the problem. There is no real answer to their problem, as their problem seems to be due to a head-scratching dip in production that almost always takes place in the month of October, during the playoffs.      For as long as I can remember, the Cardinals have been a second-half team. They'll barely keep their head above water until the All-Star break and then completely take off after the Mid-Summer Classic. There is no true reason why teams get hot at the times that they do. Talent is definitely the easy answer

Baseball Is Beautiful - Albert Pujols' 2022 Season

One of the St. Louis Cardinals' biggest surprises of 2022 was the fact that Albert Pujols came back to the team....and it was like he never left .       From 2001 to 2011, Pujols was the man in St. Louis. He helped a team that struggled through the 90s, without anything to really cheer for in that decade, reach World Series glory. He didn't just do this once, but twice. His individual success as well as the success that the team saw while he was playing for them made it to where he was seen as an icon in St. Louis. Some may even say that he was part of St. Louis. This is why his departure following the Cardinals' 2011 season, which saw them win their second championship in Pujols' illustrious tenure, came as a huge surprise. It hurt the city of St. Louis and made it to where the fans no longer wanted anything to do with their once beloved hero.  This "hatred" did not last long.      In both 2019 and 2021, Pujols returned to St. Louis. In 2019 he was a memb
